Dubuque, IA – Abby Finkenauer, the Democratic nominee for Congress in Iowa’s 1st District, released the following statement on today’s oral arguments in a lawsuit by Republican state Attorneys General to challenge the constitutionality of protections for pre-existing conditions.
“Last year, Rod Blum and Washington Republicans fought to gut protections for pre-existing conditions. We stopped them, but now they’re waging another attack on these important protections in the courts. Between this and our ongoing debacle with Iowa’s disastrous Medicaid privatization, we need new leaders who will actually focus on making healthcare work.
“Healthcare affordability should be a top priority in Congress, but instead we’re getting never-ending assaults on our Iowa values of looking after our seniors and the sick. I’ll fight to actually make healthcare affordable by adding a public option that allows people under 65 to buy-in to Medicare so they have more choices, and allowing Medicare to negotiate directly with drug companies to bring down prices.”
